“David is without doubt a very significant talent within the industry, an example of new blood stamping an indelible footprint on a well worn path. His love of film will undoubtedly take him along that path, but in the meantime he is the brightest talent in British comedy Direction”
Being born during the blizzards of January 1987, I think I always had an appreciation for just staying indoors and watching films and television.
Finally leaving the house, I studied for a degree in broadcasting at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design. Using the University’s facilities, I made several short films which I then sent out to production companies whilst still studying. This led to jobs as a runner on shows for Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross and Comic Relief.
My short films also got the attention of Producer Lisa Clark who took me on at Vic and Bob’s company, Pett Productions, where I made a series of online shorts. At 23, I was selected as a ‘Hotshot’ by Broadcast Magazine, and Lisa, Vic and Bob asked me to direct sketches for Shooting Stars on BBC Two. The series won a British Comedy Award.
I stayed on at Pett for the next few years, making sketches for House of Fools, The Angelos Epithemiou Show, and other bits and pieces including BBC iPlayer sketches with Reece Shearsmith, Sally Phillips, Micky Flanagan, Frankie Boyle, Matt Berry and Dan Skinner. I also made short films which have been shown at BAFTA-recognised festivals.
I am now working freelance as a writer and/or director and or/editor - making television, branded content, and writing and directing short films. When I can, I write new shorts or potential TV scripts.
My most recent work includes two series of Vic and Bob’s Big Night Out on BBC, Scrambled on CITV, sketches for BBC iPlayer, sketches for pilots, and social video formats for Amazon Prime Video. My main focus for now and the future is TV comedy, drama and film.
Feel free to get in touch! Until then I’ll be indoors, watching films and television.
